When deciding whether to buy or sell equipment, players can compare the level of an item. It's an indicator of the item's condition and quality. The level of an item can be used to compare items when looking at the inventory of a vendor.

The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are a variety of theories on the method by which the level of an item is determined. Item Stats

Players can choose to upgrade an item with a specific stat, or reroll the affixes. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However, all items will have at least one stat within the range, unless they are a unique item or a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could change is the option to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or choose which stats to increase. As with the base equipment, it would have to be done per item, and the item comparison interface would not display all the possible stats simultaneously.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player increases the probability of obtaining items, the properties that are generated by loot, and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives the player a chance to acquire better gear in earlier waves and is thus more valuable in early game runs than later ones because most players value more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading, which increase with each level of the item. It is also possible to be increased by using anti-materials like the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, armor, and shields can be created or spawned using the Luck property, with a default value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to increase the value of 40 luck or to boost an item's existing Luck up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow, can also be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any skill that is able to deal damage by 5%. These items can be purchased at the store, or they can be crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are a costly process and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their success rate or prevent them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.

When you upgrade an item the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limitations to how much the success rates can be improved and the probability of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%..

The success of an item upgrades is also influenced by the luck of the item. All items have an overall success rate of 25 percent, and each item with Luck increases this chance by 5%.

The upgrade overlays of the item are displayed above items in the inventory. This can obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
