World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it can boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests Each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specific amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its base stats are increased in value. The value is the sum of all of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly dependent on the upgrader and the kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is because of how many perks have to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.

Item level is a widely used measure of power, and can be found on all item tooltips. It also serves to determine a gating condition when waiting for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is capped at a lower level). The average level of the item can be found on the character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell equipment players can evaluate the levels of the item. It's an indicator of the item's damage and quality. Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor can be done by using the item level.

On PC, you can check the level of the item by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the item's full description, including the ilvl. It can also be found by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are several theories about how the level of an item is determined. One theory states that the item level is calculated by a formula that calculates how valuable the stats of an item really are. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different values, and also that sockets have gems that increase the item's overall value. This can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl which is usually quite close to the actual Blizzard level of the item.

This is not the only factor that affects the value of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped can alter its stats. For instance, it could increase the item's haste or crit score. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant element in what determines the value of an item for players. The game makes use of them in a variety of ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to one weapon and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The base stats on a weapon are increased by the weapon's stat mods that are in turn enhanced by the player's level.

The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines the upgrade cost. For instance, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, while an item with the rare levels will be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.

Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can provide the item extra damage, add a special capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or decreasing cooldowns), or make the item unique by giving a special name to the item level upgrade.

All affixes are currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade item window, and pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a certain amount of gold as well as items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other rerolling options.

Players can choose to upgrade an item by a specific stat, or reroll the affixes. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the item level, but every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within the specified range, unless it's an item that is unique or the result of a God roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that can be modified by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or choosing which stats to boost. But as with base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item basis, and the item compare interface wouldn't show all possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the odds of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops and the strength of these properties. It does not, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade equipment earlier in the game. This is more useful for early game runs, since players tend to prioritize weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chance of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability, which increases with each level and can be further enhanced through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, shields, and armor can spawn or be crafted with the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to give +40 Luck or to increase the luck of the item up to 140.

Moreover, certain items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be outfitted to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be bought in the shop or constructed using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items can be a costly process and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are cash shop items which allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent themselves from losing an item if the upgrade fails.

The success rate of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to how much the success rates can be improved and the chance of an upgrade failing cannot exceed 100%.

The success of an can be affected by the luck of the item. Every item has a success rate of 25 percent and every item with Luck increases this chance by five percent.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects may be obstructed by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
