Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item upgrading. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it can boost the rarity of an item or mark Level and increase other stats.

Item Level

Item Stats

Players can choose to upgrade an item to a specific stat or reroll attaches. The possible stat ranges for an item are based on the level of the item, however every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within that range, unless it is an exclusive item or the result of a God roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could change is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to roll the attachments, or pick which stats to enhance. But, like base equipment, this would have to be performed on a per-item basis and the interface for comparing items would not display all the possible stats gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player can increase the probability of obtaining items and the properties that are spawned by loot and the strength of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives players the chance to acquire better equipment in earlier waves and is therefore more beneficial in the initial game run than later ones as most players prioritize higher weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.

Luck can also increase the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance that increases with each level and can be further increased by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons come with an initial Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to give +40 Luck or to increase the luck of the item up to 140.

Certain items, such as the weapon that is infused with hollow, can also be equipped to increase the damage of any ability that causes damage by 5%. These items can be found in the shop or created by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are costly and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to boost their chance of success or stop themselves from losing an item if the upgrade fails.

When you upgrade an item, the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of completing the upgrade successfully and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to how much the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of a failed upgrade cannot exceed 100%.

The Luck of an Best item upgrade can affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. All items have an initial success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5%.
