World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items are a method to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it could increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.
Upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a certain amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's base stats increases as it is upgraded. This value is the total of all of its leveled up perks (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the variety of perks that need to be modified to upgrade an item.
The level of an item is a widely used measure of power, and can be seen on all tooltips for items. It is also used to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear, since PvP is limited at lower levels. The average item level can be found on the character sheet.
When deciding whether to purchase or sell equipment players can look at the item level. It's an excellent indicator of an item's quality and how much damage it is capable of dealing with. The level of the item can be used to compare items when looking at the inventory of a vendor.
The item level can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the complete description of the item, including its level. It can also be located by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are a variety of theories on how the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the level is a numerical value derived from a formula that determines the value of an item's stats are worth. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different worth, and also that sockets have gems that increase the value of the item overall. This could result in a calculated item's ilvl that is typically very close to Blizzards actual level of the item.
It's not the only thing that affects the ilvl of an item. The degree of the area in which the item dropped can also alter its stats. For instance it can increase the item's haste or crit score. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more value than items dropped in lower-level instances.
Item Stats
Item stats can make or break an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the best." The stat mods of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by the player's level.
Upgrades to the item add by boosting certain stats on the item. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas an item with the rare tiers will be upgraded several times with higher prices.
Another method of altering the stats on an item is by affixing it. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes are used to give items additional damage or other special capabilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs), or to differentiate them by naming them.
Currently, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circles arrows. This will cost a specific amount of gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges, similar to other methods of rerolling.
Players can upgrade an item with a specific stat or reroll the affixes. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However every item will have at least one stat within the range, unless they are an exclusive item, or a God Roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could be altered by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or deciding which stats to boost. As with the base equipment, this would have to be done per item and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the odds of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the intensity of those properties. It does not, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade their equipment in earlier waves and is thus more beneficial in the early game than later ones since most players prefer greater weapon scaling and defense over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chance of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance, which increases with each level of the item and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons come with the default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to add another 40 luck or to boost the Luck of an item up to 140.
Additionally some items, such as the Hollow weapon that is infused with hollow, can be equipped to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items are available in the shop, or they can be made using the correct ingredients.
Item Failure
Item upgrades are a costly process and not every upgrade will be successful. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chance of success or stop them from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.
When you upgrade an item upgrader mod the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. The probability of success can only be increased so much, and the chance that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..
The Luck of an item can influence the success of an upgrade. All items have a success rate of 25 percent, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.
It is important to note that upgrade items; try this, are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects could be obscured by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
