Most upgrade components slotted into items can't be replaced or salvaged without dismantling the equipment in question, unless it is legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a rune or glyph you do not want to use, but it's not been applied to the gear yet, you can transfer the item to a different piece by selecting the Upgrade Glyphs menu on the Glyphs Panel. This will create an entirely new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.
If you wish to remove a glyph from a piece of then you'll need to save it using an Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. This will cause the item upgrader mod to be destroyed that it was installed in but you will be able to salvage the upgraded item with the glyph and its shards therefore, it shouldn't be considered as a loss.

Leveling
