WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boosts in specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the item level Upgrade level by +3. A random extra substat is also increased with every upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the necessity to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of armor or weapons. However, the item that is used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current level of the item being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item upgrades from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be used on any weapon or tool using a button, which will show an image of the item at its next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and the current level of the item and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. After an item level upgrade has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Many locations have upgraders for their items in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and a chance to obtain a new recipe. The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only available through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with some new features added. After a player has earned an upgrade to a particular level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading additional items to the same level will be less expensive, even if they belong to a different gear set.

The discount applies to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW, players have a variety of options. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be used to purchase gear of a specific rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The simplest and simplest upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complicated requires as many as 20 crests depending on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content that is of the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, dungeons or raids of any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses to obtain endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an item upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and pathways.

Using these new currencies isn't that difficult however, the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This is to allow players to get their equipment to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests have one purpose and it's crucial to use them wisely. For instance it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrade equipment you have and keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning to make. This is especially applicable to items like trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The discount for the entire account will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
