Guide To Item Upgrades: The Intermediate Guide Towards Item Upgrades
Path of Exile item upgrade Upgrades
Item upgrades are a common and important way to improve the performance of numerous items in Path of Exile. They can be a good source of extra damage, more AD or even more attachments.
In most cases, however, upgraded Common and Magic gear is often surpassed by Rare-grade gear because of their higher requirements.
Armor
Armor upgrades are a kind of upgrade that can be used on weapon and armor items. They increase the effectiveness of the item they are connected to. Upgrades to armor are available in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. They can also be salvaged using a specialist or higher salvage kit to retrieve upgrade items components from items.
The amount of damage an armored piece or weapon will absorb is contingent on the degree of upgrades. The ability to absorb damage of an item upgrader kit of armor will increase when it is upgraded to the maximum upgrade level. However, it's important be aware that this upgrade will increase its weight, which will cause it to be heavier than it was before.
There are a few different kinds of armor upgrades available in the game, and each one has distinct effects. For instance, certain upgrades will give the armor a certain number of health points while others will make it lighter and stronger. The type of armor upgrade that an item will receive will be indicated by the name of the upgrade as shown in the table below.
A few of the upgrades are also magic or a hybrid of technology and magic, which is identified by the "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Additionally, some upgrades require a fee to use, and are shown by an "Charges" entry in the table below. These charges are constantly updated or never expire, depending on the upgrade.
The cheapest way to upgrade armor is by using Iron Ore, which can be obtained by exploring the area and looting minor loot chests. Titanium is more expensive however, it is available from smelters located in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Some upgrades, like the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be used on high-level armor pieces. These upgrades can provide a significant boost to performance and are worth the investment, especially for 1-handed weapons.
A piece of armor upgraded to max upgrade level will dramatically boost its defense but the wearer must be aware that putting on weight will dramatically reduce its speed and agility. It is not recommended to upgrade armor above +9. The added defense usually isn't worth the weight and power expenses of the upgrades.
Weapons
Weapon upgrades give players to enhance certain aspects of their weapon. For instance, an upgrade may increase the damage dealt by shotgun shells or the accuracy of a rifle that snipes. Certain firearms have upgrades to improve their inherent capabilities. These include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and decreases the chance of overheating of the weapon) and Kinetic Coils (increases the speed of projectiles to cause more damage).
The majority of upgrades to weapons require a whetblade, one of three Power Dices and a different amount of Minerals and Erons. They can be obtained by completing side quests or by killing a certain amount of monsters and bosses.
The process of upgrading a weapon, equipment Set piece, or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade price of a certain number of Bars. The more bars required to complete an upgrade item, the more expensive the upgrade. The cost of upgrading will be lower if you have more than one of the relevant upgrade materials.
In Chapter 2: Season 5, the way you upgrade your weapon and equipment sets was a bit different. Prior to Chapter 2 Season 5, you could upgrade your weapon or equipment by paying a certain number of Bars. You could do this until the weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level, at which point the upgrades would reset.
You can still do this but the process is based on RNG and low on agency. You're better off buying gear that has low upgrade levels, but high base scores and stat distributions. These items will have a better chance of granting you the highest level of blessings and perks.
To improve their skills faster, many players prioritise upgrading their weapons. Players should also upgrade item the weapons their squadmates use to make them stronger. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R, which will enhance its effectiveness when paired with biotech specialists such as Grunt and Tali.
Jewels
Jewels are utilized in the sockets of armor and weapons, increasing the power of a character and bringing about secondary effects. They can be made through an process known as jewelry crafting, which is where you combine a gem with several chemicals at a table. The higher the grade of the jewel is, the greater its secondary effect. These reagents can be found around the world through Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and sometimes by salvaging Legendary equipment. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Prisms.
The Jeweler can enhance the quality of gemstones in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. The stat boosts can vary according to the tier that the jewel is in when it's inserted into weapons, jewelry, or other gear.
All tiers of jewels can be crafted at the Jeweler and Jeweler's Workshop, with the exception of the rare and legendary gems that require you to be at a high enough level to qualify for the privilege of having them. Like other upgrade components jewels can be swapped out with a jewel of the same type without destroying the original one. You can only replace the gem only once in a piece of equipment.
It is typical to use more gems to enhance the appearance of. The jewels can also enhance performance and create a surface harder than steel so that repeated friction from pivots does not cause damage to the movement.
A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs to enhance the look of your shields and weapons. These glyphs give a slight boost in power and can be swapped, but they are not guaranteed to appear as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded, like jewelry, at the Jeweler for gold, and also Scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be taken out and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components such as traits or aegis can't be exchanged and can only be retrieved by using an Upgrade extractor or salvaging with the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage.
Trinkets
Trinkets can be used to provide your hero with many small, but valuable, benefits. They can be acquired starting in the starter areas as loot or personal story rewards from vendors, and by performing road interactions. They can be purchased from the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.
The first trinket that a player will unlock is the cloak. It provides a tiny but valuable boost in speed of movement and the ability to evade. Then, they can purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in the same fashion to how the player acquires weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment comes with a slot for an upgrade which can be universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and can be utilized on any device. Jewels cannot be upgraded or replaced and only work with certain trinkets.
These trinkets also provide additional bonuses and abilities that are active when the hero is not in combat. This enables the hero to perform better when they are not active, and can also help make up for a lack of a strong team or any talent tree slots that would normally be filled with the hero's ideal statistics.
As a general rule trinket upgrades should be a priority BiS (Best in Slot) items you won't replace soon. Next, any items with desirable stats that aren't as important as the iLevel of the item that is to be upgraded. This is true especially if you're looking to upgrade several statistics on an item. It is best to upgrade just one crucial stat rather than two suboptimal ones.
In the beginning of the game players who are in the jungle will typically want to upgrade their yellow trinket to a red, while top and mid players usually choose the pink or green ward (depending on the matchup). These choices will have an impact on the hero's ability to manage the map.
In addition to the items mentioned above, players will also discover other trinkets in form of trophies and rewards throughout the game. They can be obtained through completing certain milestones within the story. For example, completing a chapter’s main quest or defeating the boss. You can check them out by selecting the achievement in the reward section of the hero's menu.
