Costs
Upgrades come with a few associated costs. The first is the upgrade itself. This cost depends on the new level of the item and the number of perks it will gain, and can be expensive. It can also be costly to upgrade an item to a better tier (such as Explorer > Champion, or Veteran > Heroic).
The other is the cost of the items required for an upgrade. These are typically Power Dices (dropped from monsters 21+), Minerals and Erons, or specific Mists Of Pandaria or Warlords of Draenor Quests. The amount of these materials required can be seen in the inventory of an upgrade vendor.
It takes time to upgrade an item. Based on the magnitude of the upgrade, it could take up to 8 hours. The stats that are the base of the upgraded item are calculated based upon its new ilvl and other properties. This calculation determines the updated Armor Class bonus, damage dice, as well as other important stats. In some cases an upgrade may grant additional perks. These perks are available in a list.
Rarely, the new perks acquired will cost more than one perk slot In these instances, the upgrade will only replace the highest-cost perks.
