WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boosts in certain statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases a random substat.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as valuable for the latter due to the need to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and is accessible at any time to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear current it is recommended you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current item level of the gear being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade item weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor with a button, which will display an image of the item when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For example, weapons will cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount and is degraded, it can be sold and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items in addition to the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon as well as the chance to obtain a new recipe. The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are only available via a variety of ways. This is both a positive and a drawback.

In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once a player has upgraded to a certain level of Item Level Upgrade for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This applies even if those items are from a different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut too, but it is only available once certain milestones are reached.

Crests

Players have a number of options for upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

First, you must be aware that the crests can only be purchased for gear with a certain rank. Each rank has a different upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade requires up to 20 crests, based on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean engaging in outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in all difficulties to get lower-level gear or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for endgame gear. These crests can then be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, but it does bring some changes to the process of upgrading. For example, once an item is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another significant modification is that crests have one use, so it's important to use them wisely. It's Best item upgrade to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the best gear that you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, that will be able to avail the account-wide discount if all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
