Guide To Item Upgrades: The Intermediate Guide Towards Item Upgrades
Path of Exile item upgrader Upgrades
Item upgrades are a common and crucial method to enhance the performance of a variety of items in Path of Exile. They can also provide additional damage, AD or even affixes.
In most cases, however, upgraded Common and Magic gear is often surpassed by Rare-grade gear due to their requirements.
Armor
Armor upgrades are a form of upgrade that can be applied to armor and weapon items. They improve the effectiveness of the item upgrade they are connected to. Armor upgrades can be found in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. Additionally, they can be salvaged from items with upgrade components within them by using a specialist or more powerful salvage kit.
The amount of damage that an armored piece or weapon can absorb depends on the extent of its upgrades. A piece of armor upgraded to its highest upgrade level will increase the damage it absorbs. It is important to keep in mind that this will increase the weight of the armor, which means it must be heavier.
There are several different types of armor upgrades available in the game. Each one has a distinct impact. Certain upgrades give armor a greater number of health points while others make it stronger and lighter. The name of the armor upgrade will indicate the kind of upgrade that an item will receive, as shown below.
Some of the upgrades also require magic or a hybrid technology and magic, which is shown by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Some upgrades also require charges to use, which is identified by an "Charges" entry in the table below. These charges are constantly updated or never expire depending on the upgrade.
The cheapest method of upgrading armor is with Iron Ore, which can be gathered by exploring the environment and looting chests of minor loot. Titanium is more expensive, but is readily available at the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, such as the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be applied to high-level armor pieces. These upgrades can provide significant improvements in stats and are definitely worth the investment.
The process of upgrading an armor piece to the highest upgrade item level will dramatically increase its defense capabilities but the wearer must be aware that increasing its weight can drastically decrease its speed and agility. It is not recommended to upgrade armor above +9. The added defense typically isn't worth the weight and power cost of the upgrades.
Weapons
Weapon upgrades let players increase the effectiveness of certain aspects of an weapon. Upgrades can increase the accuracy of a rifle, or the damage that shotgun shells cause. Some weapons also have special upgrades that enhance their inherent characteristics. Frictionless materials (improves stability, reduces the risk of the possibility of overheating), and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's speed for greater damage) are two examples.
The majority of weapon upgrades require a whetblade, one of three Power Dices and a different amount Minerals and Erons. These can be obtained by completing Side Quests or by killing a certain number of monsters and bosses.
To upgrade a weapon, equipment set piece or Whetblade You must go to the NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee that is a certain amount of Bars. The more bars you need to complete an upgrade, the higher the level. The cost of upgrades will be lower if you have more than one of the relevant upgrade materials.
In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade weapon and equipment sets has changed. Prior to Chapter 2: Season 5 you could upgrade your weapon or equipment by paying a certain amount of Bars. You could continue doing this until you reach a maximum upgrade level for your equipment or weapon, after which upgrades would reset.
You can still do this however, the process is high on RNG and low on agency. You should consider buying equipment with minimal upgrade levels but with high base scores and stat distributions. These items have a greater likelihood of granting you highest tier advantages and benefits.
To improve their skills faster, most players will be more inclined to upgrade their weapons. Players should also upgrade the weapons their teammates utilize to increase their power. Shepard for instance should upgrade his M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more effective when accompanied with biotic specialists such as Grunt and Tali.
Jewels
Jewels are placed in the sockets of armor and weapons, increasing the power of a character and bringing about secondary effects. They can be created through a process called jewelry crafting, which is where you combine a gemstone and several reagents at a jewelry table. The higher the grade of the gem, the greater the secondary effect. These reagents can be found around the world from Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and sometimes by salvaging Legendary equipment. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.
The quality of a jewel can be improved upon by the Jeweler, in stages that range from Crude to Royal. The stat boosts will vary depending on the level the jewel is at when it's inserted into jewelry, weapons, or gear.
All kinds of jewels can be made at the Jeweler however, there are some exceptions to this, such as the rare and legendary gems that require you to be at a high enough level to be able to get the privilege of having them. Like other upgrade components jewels can be swapped by a different identical jewel without damaging the original one. You can only replace the gem once within an item of equipment.
The use of more jewels in the movement can make it feel more comfortable and is typically performed to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. Jewels also enhance performance and create a surface harder than metal so that repeated friction from pivots do not cause damage to the movement.
A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs to enhance the appearance of your weapons and shields. These glyphs give a slight boost in power and can be traded, but they're not guaranteed to be available as loot. Glyphs, just like jewelry, can be upgraded by the Jeweler to exchange gold and Scattered Crystals. Glyphs can also be taken out and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as traits and aegis, are not swappable, and are only recoverable by using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them using Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool.
Trinkets
Trinkets can provide your hero with many small, but valuable advantages. They can be obtained in the starter areas as loot, personal story rewards, from vendors, and by performing road interactions. They can also be made by jewelers, and found or purchased from the Trading Post.
The first trinket players will be able to unlock is the cloak. It gives a small but valuable boost in speed of movement and the ability to escape. Then, they can purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in a similar way to how a player obtains weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment has a slot for an upgrade that can be either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and can be utilized on any device. Jewels are not upgradeable or replaced and only work with certain trinkets.
These trinkets also grant additional buffs and skills that are active whenever the hero is not in combat. This lets the hero be more effective while inactive and may also help make up for a lack of a solid team or the absence of any slots in the talent tree which would normally be filled with the hero's best statistics.
A good rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best item upgrader-in-Slot) items that you won't be replacing soon, followed by any items with desirable stats but less important than the iLevel of the item that is being upgraded. This is especially true if an item has multiple stats that you'd like to upgrade, since it's generally better to upgrade a single important stat rather than two sub-optimal ones.
Jungle players often upgrade their yellow trinkets to a red one prior to the start of the game. Top and mid players however, will choose a green or a pink ward, based on the game's matchup. These choices can impact the hero's ability to manage the map.
Apart from the items mentioned above, players can find a number of other trinkets throughout the game in the form of trophies and awards. These can be obtained through completing certain milestones within the story. For instance, finishing the main quest of a chapter or beating the boss. These achievements can be seen by selecting the appropriate achievement in the reward tab of the hero menu.
