Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it can boost the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and increase other stats.

Upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item upgrader kit by a specified amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's basic stats increases when it is upgraded. This value is the sum of all of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive depending on the upgrader you choose and the kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is because of how many perks have to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.

The level of an item is a widely used measure of power, and can be found on all tooltips of items. It is also used as a gating requirement while waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is limited to an lower level). The average level of the item can be found on the character sheet.

The level of an item can help players evaluate the strength of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a good indicator of the quality of an item and the amount of damage it's capable of dealing with. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when evaluating the inventory of a seller.

On PC, you are able to see the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including the ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are many theories about how the level of an item level upgrade is determined. One theory states that the item level is determined by formulas that determine how valuable an item's stats actually are. It considers that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in sockets boost the value of the item. This can result in an item's ilvl calculated, which is usually very close to Blizzard's actual item level.

It's not the only thing that affects the value of an item. The degree of the area in which the item dropped can also change its stats. For instance it can add a level to the item's haste or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

The stats of an item are a major component of what makes or breaks an item for players. Another method to alter the stats of an item is through affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and come in a variety of sizes and shapes. The affixes could provide the item upgrade (peatix.com) additional damage, or add a unique capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or reducing the duration of cooldowns), or make the item unique by putting an exclusive name to the item.

At present, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circling arrows. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items that can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other options for rerolling.

In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which of the available stats they want to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The possible ranges of stats for an item are determined by the item level, but every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within that range, unless it is an item that is unique or the result of a God roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could be altered by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or choosing which stats to enhance. However, as with the base equipment, this would have to be performed on a per-item basis and the interface for comparing items wouldn't show all possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the odds of item discoveries as well as the properties that appear on loot drops and the strength of the properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players a chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game and is therefore more useful in the early game as opposed to later ones, since most players prefer more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance that increases with each level and can be further increased through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor, and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that deals damage by five percent. These items are available from the shop, or they can be crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.

When you upgrade an item, the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading that item and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased so much, and the likelihood that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%.

The Luck of an item can affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. All items have a base success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.

The upgrade overlays for items are displayed above items in the inventory. This may obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
