Guide To Item Upgrades: The Intermediate Guide Towards Item Upgrades
Path of Exile Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a common and important way to improve the performance of numerous items in Path of Exile. They can cause additional damage, AD or even affixes.
In most cases, however, upgraded Common and Magic gear is often surpassed by Rare-grade gear because of their high requirements.
Armor
Armor upgrades are a form of upgrade that can be used on armor and weapon items. They increase the effectiveness of the item upgrader kit that they're attached to. Upgrades to armor are available in the game's world and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. They can also be salvaged using a professional or higher salvage kits to salvage upgrades from the items.
The amount of damage a piece of armor or weapon can absorb depends on the level of its upgrades. A piece of armor upgraded to maximum upgrade level will increase the damage it absorbs. It's important to remember that this will increase the weight of the armor, therefore it must be more heavy.
There are many different kinds of armor upgrade available in the game. Each has a different effect. Some upgrades give armor a greater amount of health points while others make it stronger and lighter. The name of the upgrade will indicate the kind of upgrade that an item will receive, as shown below.
Certain upgrades require magic or a hybrid technology and magic, as indicated by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Certain upgrades require charges to use. They are referred to as "Charges" entries in the table. The charges associated with these upgrades refresh every day or never expire, according to the upgrade.
The cheapest way to upgrade armor is with Iron Ore, which can be found through exploring the surroundings and looting chests of minor loot. Titanium is more expensive, however it is obtainable through smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, such as the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be used on armor pieces that are of high-level. These upgrades can provide a significant improvements in stats and are a worthwhile investment, especially for 1-handed weapons.
A piece of armor upgraded to max upgrade level will dramatically increase its defense values, but the player should be aware that putting more weight on it will dramatically reduce its agility and speed. It is not recommended to upgrade armor beyond +9. The added defense typically isn't worth the weight and power cost of the upgrades.
Weapons
Weapon upgrades allow players to improve the effectiveness of specific aspects of the weapon. Upgrades can improve the accuracy of a rifle or the damage caused by shotgun shells. Certain weapons also come with upgrades that improve their innate capabilities. These include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and minimizes overheating of the weapon) and Kinetic Coils (increases projectile acceleration for more damage).
The majority of upgrades to weapons require a whetblade. It's one of three Power Dices and a different amount Minerals and Erons. These can be obtained by completing side quests or killing a certain amount of monsters and bosses.
Upgrades to a weapon, equipment Set piece, or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade price that is based on a specific number of Bars. The more bars required to complete an upgrade the more expensive the upgrade. If you have multiple upgrade materials, the cost of upgrading will be lower.
In Chapter 2: Season 5, the way you upgrade your weapon and equipment sets has changed a bit. Prior to Chapter 2 Season 5, you could upgrade your weapon and equipment by paying a certain number of Bars. You could do this until the weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level and at that point, the upgrades would be reset.
It's still possible, but it depends heavily on RNG. You should consider buying equipment that has low levels of upgrade, but high base scores and stat distributions. These will have a chance at gaining you the highest tier perks and blessings.
To increase their level faster, many players be more inclined to upgrade their weapons. Players should also upgrade the weapons their squadmates use to boost their strength. Shepard, for example should upgrade his M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more useful when used in conjunction with biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.
Jewels
Jewels can be used to improve the stats of a character or to provide additional effects in weapons and armor. Jewelry crafting is the process of making them, in which you combine the gemstone with specific reagents on a jewelry table. The higher the grade of the gem, the greater the secondary effect. These reagents are available from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses around the world, or by salvaging Legendary Gear. You can also buy them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.
The Jeweler can boost the quality of a gem in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. Depending on the tier of the jewel it will give different stat boosts when inserted into weapons, gear and jewelry.
The Jeweler can craft all kinds of gems, except for the rare and legendary ones which you must attain certain levels to gain. In contrast to other upgrade components, jewels can be swapped with another jewel of the same kind without destroying it. You can only replace the jewel once within an item upgrader of equipment.
Using more jewels in a move will make it feel smoother, and is often used for aesthetic reasons. Apart from improving performance, the diamonds create an outer layer that is more durable than metal, so repeated friction with pivots doesn't cause harm as easily.
In addition to the above upgrades additionally, players can get glyphs for their weapons and shields from a Glyphmaster. These provide a small bonus and can be swapped out at any time however they aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded like jewelry, at the Jeweler for gold and Scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be taken out and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components such as aegis or traits cannot be swapped, and can only be found through an upgrade extractor or salvaging using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage tool.
Trinkets
Trinkets can provide your hero with various small, but valuable benefits. They are available in the starter area as loot or personal story rewards. They can also be obtained through vendors and after doing road interaction. They can also be crafted by jewelers, and then found or purchased from the Trading Post.
The first trinket that a player can unlock is the cloak. It provides a tiny but beneficial boost in speed of movement and evasion. The player can then acquire rings, amulets and necklaces, in a similar way similar to how they obtained weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment comes with one upgrade slot that can accommodate either a universal or jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades are smaller and are able to be used on any device. Jewels are not upgradeable or replaced and are only compatible with certain trinkets.
These trinkets grant additional buffs and abilities that are active when the hero isn't engaged in combat. This allows a hero to become more efficient even when not in combat. It can also make up for the absence of strong slots in the team or talent tree that are normally filled by the hero's optimal stats.
A good rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you will not replace soon, followed by items with desirable stats that are less important than the iLevel of the item being upgraded. This is especially true when you want to upgrade multiple stats on an item level upgrade. It is better to upgrade one important stat than two less important ones.
In the beginning of the game players who are in the jungle will typically want to upgrade their trinket into a red one in the middle and top players will usually opt for the pink or green ward (depending on the matchup). These choices can affect the hero's ability to manage the map.
In addition to the items mentioned above, players will also find other trinkets in the form of trophies and rewards throughout the game. These can be obtained through completing certain milestones within the story. For example, completing a chapter’s main quest or beating an opponent. These achievements can be seen by selecting the appropriate achievement from the reward tab of the hero menu.
