WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. A random extra substat is also increased with every upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like Eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item upgrade is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

The upgrader is located in every major city, and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item, however, they are always cheaper than purchasing new gear. For instance upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor with the help of button, which will show a preview of the item at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For example weapons cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. After an item level upgrade has been upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and a possibility of getting the latest recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded, and can be increased by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via a variety of means that are both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been modified a bit, and several new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a specific item upgrading level for a particular armor slot, upgrading additional items to the same level will be less expensive, even if they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required to upgrade is reduced and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is reduced as well, but is only available when certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

Players have several options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an item upgrader mod that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

First, you must be aware that Crests are only available to equipment with a certain rank. Each rank has a different upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the more complex one requires as many as 20 crests, based on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities, or by taking on dungeons and raids of any difficulty to earn equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader for the item, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and paths.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, but it brings some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when an item is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest level possible on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests wisely, as they are only used for one purpose. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the top-quality equipment you can locate, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially applicable to trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character that will be able to benefit from the discount for all accounts when all slots are full of high-quality gear.
