WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by +3. A random additional substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees greater value for trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of armor or weapons. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item, however they'll always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased through NPCs who sell upgrades to item upgrader kit owners for various currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool with a button, which will show an image of the item when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item and the current level of the item. For example weapons cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level and is degraded, it can be sold and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations on the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items being upgraded, and can be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items available at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require several methods which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with several new features added. Once an upgrade has been completed to a certain item level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This applies even if those items are from another set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut too, but it is only available once certain milestones are reached.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW, players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specialized and are utilized during specific item level upgrade; visit, level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be used to purchase equipment that is of a particular rank, and that every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the more complex one requires as many as 20 crests, based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities, or by taking on dungeons and raids of any difficulty to earn equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with heroic difficulty for endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader for the item upgrade, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and paths.

Using these new currencies isn't too difficult however, the system introduces some changes to the overall upgrade process. For example, once an item reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to get their gear up to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests with care, since they have only one purpose. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrade gear you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is especially relevant for items like rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The discount for the entire account will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
