World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to items are a method to boost the stats of an item upgrader mod (a cool way to improve). Based on the type of upgrade item, it may increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

Upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item comes with an upgrade items track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specified amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's stats base increases as it is upgraded. This value is the total of all its upgraded perks (attack, magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high, dependent on the upgrader and what kind of upgrade you decide to perform. This is due to the variety of perks that must be altered to upgrade an item.

It is also used to enforce gating requirements when queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It is also used to limit how much PvP gear players can use since PvP is not available at lower levels. Players can view their average level of item on their character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell gear players can evaluate the item level. It's a sign of the item's damage and quality. The level of the item can be used to evaluate items when examining the inventory of a seller.

On PC, you can check the level of the item upgrader kit by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the complete description of the item, as well as its ilvl. It can also be found by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are a few theories on how the item level calculation is done. One theory is that the level is a numerical value derived from a formula that calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It considers that different benefits are valued differently and that gems found in sockets boost the value of the item. This can result in an item's ilvl calculated, which is typically very close to Blizzards actual item level.

It's not the only factor that affects the level of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped may change its stats. For instance, it could increase the item's haste, or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more value than items dropped in lower-level instances.

Item Stats

The stats of an item can make or break an item for players. The game makes use of them in various ways to encourage players to not restrict themselves to a particular weapon, and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The base stats of a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat mods that are in turn increased by the player's skill.

Upgrades to an item may boost its stats. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas an item with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.

Affixes can also be used to alter the stats of an item. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can provide the item extra damage, or add a unique capability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down the cooldowns), or make the item unique by putting a special name to the item.

All affixes are currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window, pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold as well as items, which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other options for rerolling.

In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can select which of the available stats to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the level of the item, but every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within that range, unless it is an item that is unique or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.

This is another aspect that could be altered by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or choosing which stats to enhance. But, like base equipment, this would have to be carried out on a per-item basis, and the interface for comparing items wouldn't show all possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player increases the chance of finding items as well as the properties generated by loot, and the strength of these properties. It does not, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with an opportunity to get better equipment earlier in the game. This is more useful in the early game, because players tend to put the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chance of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith’s overall chance of upgrading, which increase with each item level. They can also be enhanced by using anti-materials such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons come with the default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) for a further +40 luck or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any skill that causes damage by 5percent. These items can be purchased in the shop or crafted by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are a costly process and not all upgrades will succeed. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chances of success for an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item if it does not work.

When you upgrade an item the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. The chance of success can only be increased by so high, and the probability that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%.

The performance of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of that item. Every item has a base success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.

The upgrade overlays of the item are displayed above items in the inventory. This can block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
