Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into weapons, armor and trinkets in order to give them a stat boost or an extra effect. These can be obtained through crafting, buying from vendors trading or looting. Some upgrades have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment that has a slot for them; the item must be at a minimum upgraded to blue level for a component to be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other modifications, can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and Enrichments are kind of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade item non-amulet legendary or ascended equipment, as well as some non-ascended items. Infusions and enrichments can be retrieved by salvaging gear from the ascended, or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade may include a suffix or prefix that alters the name of the equipment to the upgrade (for examplefor example 'Canthan Armor Insignia' becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players to create stronger versions of that equipment using fewer Upgrade Crystals than would be required to reach the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

A 'boost' upgrade can alter the attack or defence attributes of a weapon, or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist, these upgrades can be created at the Portative Forging Station. They can be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear or purchasing them in the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals.

The player can have a maximum of five boost upgrades at a time; each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-level version of the item will be available at the time of the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to continue upgrading their gear even if they're not sure of how much they'll increase after a future reset.

If a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process may be costly, and there is a significant chance that the item could become obsolete or even break if it fails; a unsuccessful upgrade could cause the destruction of Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to decrease or eliminate the chance of failure. Certain upgrades also provide a bonus if they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to upgrade the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets that are specifically designed for. The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it from your inventory. You can replace it with another Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of the Gem Store bundle or purchase the glyphs with certain tools that allow unlimited use, and during Faction Crypt Raids. Every Faction Crypt could drop one of these Glyphs. There are some rare glyphs that you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs you will need them to be placed on your gear. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus that boosts the stats of a particular set of nodes within a radius around the Glyph. It could be +40 for one of your primary stats, or +25 for two of your secondary stats depending on the Glyph.

The use of a Glyph will boost all the nodes that are connected to it, so you should aim to place your Glyphs near key nodes on the Graph to maximize the impact. Druids, for instance should put their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They might also want to consider placing them near their most critical damage nodes.

Leveling

The system of upgrading items lets players increase the effectiveness of specific items by putting upgraded components inside them. This is referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item comes with an amount that determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items are able to be leveled until they reach a maximum level of 385 ilvl. Each level requires a different number of components to be reached and the cost of upgrading increase as the item gets upgraded.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table or bought from NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed earns a number of Technology Points. These points can be used to level up the item, and once enough points have been earned, the upgrade will be claimed and any additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When a player upgrades an item it is replaced with a new item upgrader mod of the same kind. This means that the same armor piece will become the form of a shield or weapon when upgraded. The new item will have a unique bonus. This can be a disadvantage in that it could cause the item to become more expensive if you do not require it.

Upgrades to items can be rerolled, provided that the player has enough reroll tokens to be able to do so. The item will be replaced with the same item, but it has a level 1 basis and totally different bonuses. This can be useful for certain items, but it shouldn't be performed frequently, since it can waste lots of resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled many times which increases their value and giving players the ability to alter their gear. One example is Dolphin's Gift, which gives an advantage when a player repeatedly enters and leaves the water (or is able to swim like dolphins). This item can be upgraded multiple times and increases the maximum roll each time by 10 increments. This item is extremely valuable in PvP. A well-rolled version can be worth as much as 50x the value of a non-upgraded counterpart.

Requirements

The item upgrader lets players increase the level of their equipment (armor weapons, armor trinkets, and weapons) above ilvl385 by presenting the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces increase its base defense and upgrades to weapon items increase their base damage and also increase their strength and dexterity.

All items can be upgraded a maximum of five times, with the exception of hero gear, which can be upgraded up to eight times. Every time you upgrade an item it has a chance to fail--the rate of failure increases as you exceed the maximum amount of upgrades. Failures can cause the item to go to its original state, which will force the user to spend more materials than they would have to had they stopped upgrading at the maximum amount of upgrades.

If an item isn't upgraded, the experience bar in the bar for growth will be reset to zero. In addition the item will lose any bonus it earned, including crit chance and attack damage, and all additional effects associated with the effect (for example, increased heal over time or reload speed). However, the player can still continue to use the weapon or armor following the failure.

Whenever an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied in order from the lowest to the highest. This means that when a weapon gains an increase in the chance of crit, the increase is applied before any increase in attack damage. A new attribute called Slots is now added to the definition of the item and the value is calculated each time an upgrade is made.

The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item is determined on the rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The cost of upgrading non-premium equipment is equal to the value of the base item. For example an item that is commonplace could have five upgrades at a cost of. 25600 Technology Points, 4x Quality Improvement Chance. Hero grade items have a lower cost per upgrade items.

Premium items have different upgrade requirements in comparison to standard equipment. For instance, they might require fewer sowels but more minerals and erons.
